When an unknown event results in human extinction, stranded in a small city, two men vie for the love of the last remaining woman. With their past lives stripped away, personal obsessions cause tensions in their fragile society. A former company executive becomes a pick-pocket of the dead; a young factory worker patrols the empty city with his rifle in fear; the woman speaks through her mannequin's attire, in this oddly funny, often tragic tale of a community of three. After a dark secret tears them apart, they are brought together again by an unusual happening which will change everything.
Apply to: Shaista Justin,
2 breakdowns:
1. Female / 25-30 yrs. / Any Ethnicity. Roberta is a complex and layered character. She is the glue which holds together a tenuous society of 3. While at moments, she may appear to be unstable and fragile, needing the support of both men, and slipping into other invented characters, it is apparent to the audience that Roberta is much more saavy than she appears. She is bright and tough, and her weakness can turn into incredible strength suddenly and surprisingly. She is defensive of Andy (the young factory worker)), but also fair to Elliot (the belligerent pickpocket) in her attempt to maintain balance in a community which, albeit small, could explode at any moment.
2. Male / 31-40 yrs. / Any Ethnicity.
Elliot was formerly a company executive with a trophy wife and 4 year old son. He cheated on his wife and was bright, savvy and belligerent. When the world ends he falls in love with Roberta, the only female character, and is in competition for her love with Andy a young working class man. Elliot takes to pillaging the homes of the dead in order to experience what the past was like. He is dismissive of Andy and often sarcastic and cruel without intent. He is a layered and complex character, ranging from angry and dismissive, to mournful and poetic. |
